Disability Hate Crime

As a consequence of the media demonization of disabled people as ‘benefit scroungers’, disabled people have increasingly been subjected to incidences of disability hate crime, including verbal and physical attacks.  In my chapter in ‘Disability, Human Rights and the Limits of Humanitarianism’ (2014) edited by Gill and Schlund-Vials, I examined this phenomenon in detail.  In future projects, I am enthusiastic to build on this work and research the topic further.
